About the Role

We are looking for a Small Plant Fitter / Tool Hire Mechanic to join our busy branch team. This role involves the maintenance, servicing, and repair of a wide range of small plant and tool hire equipment, including electrically powered tools as well as petrol and diesel machinery.

Previous tool hire experience is not essential - we welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in electrical engineering, mechanical fitting, automotive, HGV, plant, agricultural, or diesel mechanics, or similar hands-on technical roles. Full training will be provided on our equipment and systems.

Location: Brand New Regional Workshop - Luton, LU1 1YB

Hours: Monday–Friday 07:30 – 17:00 or 07:00 – 16:30

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair small plant and tool hire equipment
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults
  • Work on petrol and diesel engines as well as electrically powered tools
  • Complete routine safety checks and inspections
  • Prepare equipment to a high standard for hire
  • Carry out planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
  • Accurately complete job cards and maintenance records
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop
  • Support branch colleagues as part of a wider team

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in a mechanical, electrical, or engineering role
  • Ability to fault-find and problem-solve
  • Comfortable working with electrical systems and/or petrol & diesel engines
  • A proactive, reliable, and safety-focused approach
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Tool hire, plant, automotive, HGV, or agricultural experience
  • PAT testing knowledge
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications
  • C1 License
