About the Role

We are looking for a Small Plant Fitter / Tool Hire Mechanic to join our busy branch team. This role involves the maintenance, servicing, and repair of a wide range of small plant and tool hire equipment, including electrically powered tools as well as petrol and diesel machinery. Previous tool hire experience is not essential - we welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in electrical engineering, mechanical fitting, automotive, HGV, plant, agricultural, or diesel mechanics, or similar hands‑on technical roles. Full training will be provided on our equipment and systems.

Location: Brand New Regional Workshop - Luton, LU1 1YB

Hours: Monday–Friday 07:30 – 17:00 or 07:00 – 16:30

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair small plant and tool hire equipment
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults
  • Work on petrol and diesel engines as well as electrically powered tools
  • Complete routine safety checks and inspections
  • Prepare equipment to a high standard for hire
  • Carry out planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
  • Accurately complete job cards and maintenance records
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop
  • Support branch colleagues as part of a wider team

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in a mechanical, electrical, or engineering role
  • Ability to fault‑find and problem‑solve
  • Comfortable working with electrical systems and/or petrol & diesel engines
  • A proactive, reliable, and safety-focused approach
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Tool hire, plant, automotive, HGV, or agricultural experience
  • PAT testing knowledge
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications
  • C1 License
