Normans provide a fully comprehensive range of products and materials to the building industry in Jersey and are on the hunt for a Finance Manager to be a key commercial and financial partner in one of our Jersey sites.
As a Finance Manager you will work alongside the Managing Director, supporting decision‑making across sales, operations, stock, and margin management, while retaining responsibility for core back‑office finance activities to ensure strong financial control and governance. Managing the Back‑office team across finance, payroll, debtors and general administration.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Commercial & Business Partnering
- Act as the primary finance partner to the MD, providing insight, challenge, and support on commercial and operational decisions.
- Deliver clear analysis on sales, margin, pricing, cost control, stock, and working capital.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and medium‑term planning, translating financial outcomes into operational actions.
- Provide performance commentary and recommendations for monthly reviews.
- Partner with operational and sales leadership to improve profitability and drive insight on divisional and site P&Ls.
- Improve reporting tools, dashboards, and KPIs to support better operational decision‑making.
- Operational & Back‑Office Finance
- Maintain oversight of core finance processes including month‑end close, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet integrity.
- Ensure accurate reporting of P&L, stock, and cash performance.
- Act as a point of escalation for finance queries across the business.
- Management of Debtors, Purchase Ledger, General Admin, Payroll.
- Stock & Cash Focus
- Support stock management through analysis of excess, slow‑moving, and aged stock.
- Work with operations to improve stock turns and weeks' cover.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in commercial finance, business partnering, or management accounting.
- Demonstrable experience working closely with senior operational leaders.
- Proven ability to interpret financial data and translate it into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience managing finance operations such as month‑end close, payroll, purchase ledger, and cash management.
- Understanding of stock accounting, stock valuation, and stock control processes.
- Experience improving processes, reporting tools, and internal controls.
Skills & Competencies
- ACCA Qualified (or equivalent professional accounting qualification).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Highly proficient with financial systems, reporting tools, and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining a commercial mindset.
- Ability to manage, lead, and develop a multi‑disciplinary back‑office team.
- Confident in challenging assumptions, identifying risks, and proposing solutions.
