We are looking for a SATCOM Engineer to advise on Future Programmes of business evolution for industry competitiveness and introduction of innovation; this role is based inside ESA premises, and two are possible: either in ESTEC, Noordwijk (NL) or in Harwell, United Kingdom (with a hybrid homeworking model).
In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your technical expertise to support, advise, guide and grow business opportunities in satellite communications and attract stakeholders to collaborate with ESA on satcom, terrestrial telecom and space area.
About the client and location
The European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications is the European Space Agency's (ESA) base in Harwell, UK. With special focuses on the link between space and telecommunications, ECSAT also hosts ESA's Earth Observation Climate Office. It is from here that ESA's Climate Change Initiative programme is executed.
Tasks and activities
- Analyse and assess the business environment evolution for satcom, terrestrial telecom and space and potential impact to the satcom key stakeholders.
- Identify and justify selected business partners to focus on using key criteria of relevance and impact for industry competitiveness and introduction of innovation.
- Support analysis of opportunities with the selected business partners, in some of the focus areas identified in business exploration (e.g. 5G, satellite constellations, artificial intelligence).
- Contribute to the preparation of action plans and development of roadmaps in close cooperation with relevant stakeholders (e.g. Satcom and terrestrial industry) in order to foster the use of innovative Satcom solutions.
- Assist with the promotion of the use of satellite communications and attract stakeholders to collaborate with ESA in implementing and demonstrating integrated end-to-end systems and services.
Skills and experience
- Master's degree or equivalent in Physics or Engineering, or a relevant field, with at least 4 years of proven relevant experience in Satcom systems.
- Expertise in business development in the European and international commercial space sector, including in institutional markets, and/or digital economy.
- Sound experience in Satellite Communications End-to-End system design, development and project definition.
- Experience in change processes by adoption of new processes, opportunity management, investment schemes.
- Familiar with driving strategic engagement through international business partnerships between space, telecom or media and vertical markets (e.g. transport, energy, health, government, security).
- Broader business thinking, relationship management, ambassadorship, innovation and creativity.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with customer focused communication skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of another ESA member-state language is an asset.
