We are looking for empathetic, energetic and reliable people to join the Starfyn Education Family in a long-term, full-time SEN Teaching Assistant role!
One of our specialist SEN schools in Lambeth supports young people aged 11 to 19 with a range of learning difficulties and communication needs, with many students also having a diagnosis of Autism (ASD).
The school places a strong emphasis on helping students develop their independence, confidence, communication, emotional regulation and life skills, alongside their academic learning.
Staff work closely together to create a positive, structured and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to make meaningful progress.
The school uses a variety of approaches to support students, including sensory regulation strategies, Total Communication, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, Zones of Regulation and practical life-skills activities.
We are looking for staff who genuinely want to make a positive difference to young people's lives.

The Role
- Employment Type β Agency (Either Long-Term, Temporary or Temporary to Permanent)
- Days Required β Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.00pm, Term Time Only (Full-Time)
- Pay β Β£90 per day PAYE
The Ideal Candidate will
To be considered for the role, the desirable candidate will have previous experience of working within a School, College, SEN Provision or similar setting.
- However, we will also consider candidates that have some of the following:
- Childcare experience β Through personal or professional experience.
- Special Needs experience β Through family, friends or professional environments.
- Experience supporting Autism, learning difficulties, communication needs or SEMH.
- Experience within care, supported living, youth work or similar support environments.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine, caring attitude.
- A patient and resilient approach when supporting young people.
- An energetic attitude where you want to get involved wherever possible.
- A willingness to learn different communication and sensory strategies.
- Good general education levels in English and Maths.
- Flexibility with required working patterns.
- A genuine enthusiasm to help young people develop their independence and confidence.
- Teaching Assistant qualifications are preferred but not essential.
Your Main Duties
- Offer support for the school's students before, during and after their lessons.
- Support students aged 11β19 with a range of additional learning and communication needs.
- Aid students with their understanding and participation in classroom activities.
- Work either on a 1:1 or small-group basis to support learning and development.
- Help students develop their communication, confidence, independence and life skills.
- Support students with sensory regulation and emotional well-being.
- Assist students who may require alternative methods of communication.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help students regulate their emotions.
- Work closely with Teachers, Teaching Assistants and other professionals within the school.
- Support practical and vocational learning activities where required.
- Help promote each student's love of learning and encourage positive engagement.
- Actively take part in team meetings and contribute to the wider school community.
- Always follow the regulations pertaining to Safeguarding and pupil welfare.
- Support students with individual needs and physical assistance where required, with appropriate training provided by the school.
- Inspire and engage young people with a wide range of additional learning needs.
As an agency worker you are only paid for the days you have worked. Therefore, you will not be paid during the school holidays.
