STARD is an internationally recognized Austrian R&D specialist business unit of family-owned Stohl Group GmbH, with a focus on motorsport and high performance automotive vehicles. We cover the whole process chain for entire vehicle development, assembly, testing, vehicle operation and racing completely in-house. Our recently acquired proving ground and test track is part of our new well-equipped company headquarters located right outside of Vienna.
In addition to ICE and EV entire vehicle development, STARD’s focus also lies on the following key areas:
- High performance FIA certified HV battery systems
- High performance Electric Drive Units (integrated and individual E-Motor, Inverter and transmission systems)
- Complete E/E systems for ground, aerial, and marine vehicles
- ICE-ECU and E-VCU software development and calibration
- Advanced Powertrain control strategies including 4WD torque vectoring systems
- Chassis and suspension systems

We are hiring a simulation engineer to focus on entire vehicle laptime and powertrain (Engines, Batteries, Motors, Inverters) performance simulation and optimisation. Main associated activities include:
- Entire vehicle laptime simulation by use of AVL VSM simulation tool
- Planning, coordination and support of entire vehicle validation testing on dyno and at race tracks
- Optimise existing and develop new powertrain system simulation tools by use of Matlab Simulink and other tools
- Implementation of new powertrain simulation modules into entire vehicle laptime simulation
- Maintain vehicle and subcomponent performance/simulation database
- Maintain track database including implementation of new closed and open tracks
- Analysis of real life vehicle logging data and comparison to simulation results
- Carry out sensitivity studies in close cooperation with the entire development team
- Define performance and development targets of entire vehicle and powertrain development programs
- Support development testing and race activity on site with vehicle and system simulation
- Development of new standalone simulation tools on vehicle and component level
- Involvement in functionality, performance and endurance tests & on site race activity
Profile:
- Bachelor or Master degree in engineering or similar qualification
- Relevant experience in motorsport preferred
- Relevant experience in entire vehicle and/or powertrain simulation preferred
- Basic CAD knowledge (Catia V5-6 preferred)
- Excellent knowledge of vehicle dynamics preferred
- Excellent knowledge of EV powertrain systems preferred
- Knowledge of kinematics optimization tools beneficial
- Knowledge of motorsport logging and performance analysis beneficial
- Knowledge of tire modeling principles
- Knowledge and understanding of motorsport regulations (FIA)
- “In-Field” experience e.g. as race or test engineer beneficial
- Perfect English skills (verbal & read/write)
- Above average commitment, as usual in competitive high performance development & motorsport
- Excellent communication, teamwork and social skills
- Target oriented approach & ability to work independently
Terms of Employment:
- Long-term full time employment based in Austria, Vienna
- Initial temporary “Fly-in” option possible
