STARD is an internationally recognized Austrian R&D specialist business unit of family-owned Stohl Group GmbH, with a focus on motorsport and high performance automotive vehicles, in-house test-track and 24 years of successful operation. We cover the whole process chain for entire vehicle development, assembly, testing, vehicle operation and racing completely in-house. Our recently acquired very own proving ground and test track, which also includes an off-road area, is part of our new very well equipped company headquarter located right outside of Vienna, accessible with public transportation and just 15 driving minutes from the Vienna International Airport.
In addition to ICE and EV entire vehicle development, STARD’s focus also lies on following key areas:
- High performance FIA certified HV battery systems
- High performance Electric Drive Units (integrated and individual E-Motor, Inverter and transmission systems)
- Complete E/E systems for ground, aerial, and marine vehicles
- ICE-ECU and E-VCU software development and calibration
- Advanced Powertrain control strategies including 4WD torque vectoring systems
- Chassis and suspension systems
- Worldwide Racing activity (in very close collaboration with sister business unit “Stohl Racing”) including: Rally, Rallycross, Circuit Racing, Offroad, Special programmes (e.g. Pikes Peak, Nürburgring Laprecords,…)

Selection of associated activities can include:
- Powertrain system layout, development and component choice
- E/E system development, in close collaboration with E/E specialists
- High level target definition for software and/or control strategies
- Development of control strategy concepts for multiple applications (traction-, yaw angle control, hybrid strategies, 4WD TV systems,…)
- Development of control models in Matlab/Simulink
- Implementation into various control units (VCU, BMS,…)
- Application & calibration work on dyno, testing and at race events
- Development of models used for vehicle simulation, DiL and HiL applications
- Close collaboration with mechanical engineers
- Involvement in real life testing, optimization and race process possible (project/task dependant)
Profile:
- Bachelor or master degree in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering or similar qualification
- Relevant experience in motorsport development or high performance automotive development
- Innovative and creative mind
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink tools
- Knowledge of ICE powertrain systems
- Knowledge of HV electric powertrain systems
- Knowledge of CAN and similar communication bus systems
- Good knowledge of electrical components (sensors, actuators, control units)
- Good knowledge of basic physical principles (mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, electrics)
- “In-Field” experience e.g. as test or application engineer beneficial
- Perfect English skills (verbal & read/write)
- Above average commitment, as usual in competitive high performance development
- Excellent communication, teamwork and social skills
- Target oriented approach & ability to work independently
Terms of Employment:
- Long-term full time permanent employment based in Austria, Vienna
