The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading store operations, developing the team, and creating an exceptional customer experience. This role helps drive store performance, ensures operational excellence, and fosters a positive, engaging environment for both customers and partners. The Assistant Store Manager acts as a key leader, motivating the team and maintaining Starbucks high standards during all shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development: Support the Store Manager in hiring, training, and developing partners to deliver top-tier customer service. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management to shift supervisors and baristas. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and motivating store culture that reflects Starbucks mission and values. Lead by example in personal conduct, work ethic, and customer engagement.
- Customer Experience: Ensure customers receive friendly, consistent, and high-quality service. Address customer concerns promptly and professionally. Maintain a welcoming, clean, and comfortable café environment. Educate partners on beverage quality, product knowledge, and brand standards.
- Operational Excellence: Support all daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures. Ensure adherence to Starbucks operational policies and processes. Oversee cash handling: register accuracy, deposits, and financial controls. Monitor inventory and assist with ordering, stocking, and waste management. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Business & Sales Performance: Support the Store Manager in meeting or exceeding store sales, labor, and operational goals. Help track store performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service. Lead the team in executing promotions, new product rollouts, and seasonal initiatives.
- Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Address operational challenges quickly and effectively. Support shift supervisors with real-time decision-making during peak periods. Maintain a calm, solutions-focused approach in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in retail or food/beverage leadership required; Starbucks experience is a plus.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and coach a diverse team.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic math and cash-handling procedures.
