We’re looking for a health and safety manager to join our team here at Starbucks UK to support our store development and facilities teams. A place where you’re valued, challenged, and inspired. Where your voice is brewed into everything we do. At Starbucks, we’re all about you.

As part of this role, you’ll be responsible for helping to build and shape the health and safety within these functions. This will include leading fire safety management, driving our building safety standards, overseeing facilities H&S management and providing expert advice to our partners, leaders and suppliers. You’ll also collaborate closely with our Store Development team on new store openings and upgrades, consult on new processes and ways of working, and partner with our Health and Safety Retail Operations Manager to ensure alignment.

We’ll look to you to bring your proven experience in H&S management within a store development or construction environment, with the ability to prioritise effectively and respond to emergencies with confidence. You’ll have a level 5 (diploma or equivalent) in health and safety from a recognised qualification with additional qualifications in fire safety and construction safety (minimum level 3 or equivalent). Ideally, you’ll be a member of IOSH either at a chartered member of the institute of occupational safety and health, or working towards this. You’ll be a strong relationship builder, being able to communicate and build relationships with internal teams and our external suppliers. It would also be great if you’ve got experience in writing policies and processes as well as in project management.

The best part about this role is that no two days are ever the same! Working as our health and safety manager, you’ll get involved in:

  • Managing the development of store development safety standards, policies, and programs, including reporting tools and investigation processes.
  • Acting as the fire safety competent person and managing relationships with external fire safety contractors.
  • Analysing data to identify areas for improvement in store development safety standards; creating learning tools, identifying engineering solutions to eliminate issues, and contributing expertise to the H&S strategic agenda.
  • Ensuring all H&S-related complaints relevant to store development are fully investigated, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner; identifying trends and advising the business on future mitigation.
  • Representing Starbucks at meetings with external regulatory bodies, suppliers, and other third parties.
  • Managing key store development contractors for H&S (lift competent person, gas competent person, legionella contractor, asbestos contractor, and fire consultant) in partnership with the store development function.
  • Completing contractor H&S assessments and providing measurable actions and feedback to the business.
  • Providing H&S technical support to the store development team on building regulations, fire safety orders, and H&S regulations.
  • Completing schematic reviews for H&S and advising the design function on areas of improvement.
  • Overseeing compliance with CDM Regulations, ensuring all duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations are met across projects.

In return, we’ll offer you a competitive salary and benefits that include:

  • 25 days holiday a year (plus Bank Holidays)
  • Up to 10% bonus
  • Flexible benefits – in addition to the benefits listed here we’ll also provide you with an additional 4% to allow you to select the benefits that suit you
  • Life assurance and private medical insurance for yourself
  • Comprehensive training (including coffee knowledge!) and access to Starbucks Global Academy (our online learning platform to help continuously develop yourself)
  • Free bag of coffee each week and a 30% partner discount on food, beverages, and merchandise
  • Discounts with local and national retailers (cell phones, gym memberships, entertainment tickets, hotels, etc.) through Perks at Work platform
