About the pub
Britannia, Gillingham is a welcoming community pub, providing great value drinks and a friendly space for loyal locals to meet and enjoy everyday get togethers.
A full refurbishment of this pub is planned to help you drive trade. Applicants should be aware that all refurbishments are subject to final board approval which will be determined as part of the leasing process.
Sitting on Gillingham High Street, the Britannia benefits from strong passing trade from shoppers and is close to Gillingham Town FC and the University of Greenwich campus. There are 11,118 adults living within a 10-minute walk of the pub, putting it at the heart of a busy area with a vibrant hospitality scene and plenty of potential customers.
The pub attracts a mixed customer base, including younger customers connected to the nearby university, local residents and people visiting Gillingham town centre for shopping and leisure.
The offer
The Britannia already has an established community pub offer, with the opportunity to build on this following the refurbishment. Trade can be driven through its prominent High Street location, its locally popular beer garden, passing shopping trade, nearby university and football audiences, and the introduction of Sky Sports and TNT Sports to strengthen its live sport offer.

Trading Area & Facilities
The refurbishment will cover both the interior and exterior of the Britannia. A full list of works and pub floor plan can be found in the Downloads section.
Externally, the planned works will refresh the pub and improve its kerbside appeal, including new signage designed to attract more passing customers. Inside, smaller improvements such as new fixed seating and an interior décor refresh will enhance the existing offer, while a dedicated gaming and entertainment zone will help create more reasons to visit. The pub's existing garden will continue to provide an important outdoor trading space.

What we're planning & why
Refurbishment details
The refurbishment will cover both the interior and exterior of the Britannia. The project will focus on new external signage, improved kerb appeal, refreshed interior décor, targeted seating improvements and an enhanced sports and entertainment zone.
What's happening?
The exterior will be refreshed and new signage installed to make the pub more visible and appealing from Gillingham High Street. Internally, targeted improvements such as new fixed seating and a décor refresh will make the established trading space feel more comfortable and relevant.
The Britannia will remain a drinks-led community pub. A dedicated sports and gaming zone, supported by Sky Sports and TNT Sports, will broaden the reasons to visit and help the operator build trade around football and other major sporting occasions. The existing garden is a major local asset and will support warm-weather trading and social occasions.
Why invest?
The refurbishment will strengthen an already established pub by improving its visibility, comfort and sports offer. This creates an opportunity to attract more high-street walk-ins, students, football supporters and local residents, while giving existing customers more reasons to visit throughout the week. The investment is expected to support increased footfall, dwell time and repeat custom.
