As a Transport Planner, you will be an integral part of our Operations Desk team, responsible for effectively planning transport movements and allocating our access fleet to meet customer demands. You will work closely with the Sales Desk and the broader team to ensure smooth order fulfilment and maintain exceptional service levels.
Your Responsibilities
- Frontline Transportation: Plan and coordinate transport routing to meet order requirements in line with company KPIs, ensuring optimal fleet utilisation.
- Order Fulfilment: Liaise with drivers throughout the day to ensure timely delivery of customer orders.
- Hire Fleet Management: Review the daybook daily to maximise the use of our hire fleet and exchange cross-hires with our own fleet when beneficial.
- Problem-Solving: Use logistics principles to address challenges efficiently.
- Engineering Coordination: Collaborate with engineering to update machine requirements for bookings.
- Customer Interaction: Handle calls and emails professionally, providing excellent customer service.
- Team Collaboration: Work with colleagues across departments to deliver effective customer solutions.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to Star Platforms’ quality, health, safety, and environmental policies and industry standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Planning Expertise: Demonstrated operational or logistics planning ability, preferably within the hire industry (training provided).
- Communication Skills: A confident, professional communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with internal and external contacts.
- Problem Solver: Proactive and detail-oriented with a “can-do” attitude.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of transport planning and logistics as well as good UK geographical knowledge.
- Tech & System Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and basic mathematics for tasks such as truckload calculations and customer quotations.
- Organised Multi-Tasker: Ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a busy office environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
