Star Energy Group Plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM (AIM:STAR) market and has played a key role in Britain’s onshore energy production, safely exploring, developing and producing onshore oil and gas at roughly 100 sites for over three decades. Currently producing around 2,000 boe per day, there is significant potential for further delivery from its existing assets.

The Company acquired GT Energy, a geothermal company in 2020 and is seeking to develop the production of renewable energy by leveraging its existing technology, acreage and experience as part of the transition to net zero in 2050. Star Energy also announced in 2023 the acquisition of a Croatian subsidiary, IGeoPen d.o.o, whose geothermal waters exploration licence lie in the highly prospective Pannonian Basin in Croatia. Functional Role & Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and motivate a team of staff to ensure that the necessary skills, knowledge and experience are maintained to deliver the company objectives.
- Support the development and monitor the effectiveness of the well surveillance plan, providing feedback to technical and production management teams.
- Ensure all surveillance activities and well reviews are conducted, documented and implemented to optimise production.
- Liaise with Production operations to coordinate well testing programs, injection systems testing and interpret well testing and sampling results.
- Liaise with Production operations, Technical and Finance teams to coordinate accurate production forecasting.
- Proactively identify problems or opportunities with oil & gas production and water injection, ensuring that the production teams follow the best operating practices/guidelines.
- Develop optimum well operating guidelines and envelopes for all wells within the asset base.
- Routinely review artificial lift (rod pumping and jet pumps) and well performance data to evaluate artificial lift and maintenance performance, updating well operating guidelines as appropriate.
- Design rod pump strings and jet pump combinations to optimise production delivery where required.
- Maintain choke model to identify production optimisation opportunities, ensuring all information is well documented.
- Prioritise and maintain an “at risk” system for wells within the Star Energy fields.
- Work closely with the London based Technical staff to actively support the development of well work options through technical input and advice to well services and production to assist well-work prioritisation.
- Provide recommendations in support of well-work options, assisting the well engineering team with conceptual well designs, including production predictions supported by reservoir analysis.
- Work with well services to recommend optimum down hole pump equipment and combinations for purchase and installation.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction in all areas of influence - which includes, and is not limited to budget responsibility for the department.
- Review the opportunity of using alternative products and technology and provide feedback to management.
- Attend meetings as appropriate to the role and circumstances.
- Lead or contribute to the incident investigation process where requested.
- Demonstrate safety awareness and leadership, coaching others to ensure safety, efficiency and compliance are maintained or improved at all times.
Oil & Gas Industry experience is essential. A Degree or equivalent in Petroleum or a Discipline Engineering is preferred. Leadership skills with an ability to work across functions and with a full range of stakeholders. Demonstrable problem solving and decision making capabilities. Ability to clearly articulate ideas, values and expectations through spoken and written methods. Ability to champion innovation and change to enhance production delivery. Ability to prioritise and innovate whilst maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Robust financial awareness with budget management proficiency. Ability to quickly develop skills in the use of industry related software and tools. Identify opportunities to increase production or reduce costs and prepare recommendations for prioritisation. Ability to track costs and make cost-informed decisions.
This role is to develop a full understanding of the well performance and potential across the Star Energy fields through effective monitoring of day to day well performance. The post holder leads a team to deliver production performance and optimisation. Support production optimisation through active consultation and guidance to the operation teams. The role has opportunity to adopt a hybrid working approach at either our Lincolnshire, Southampton or London based offices. Travel to all our sites in the UK is essential for this position. This position may be either a full time role or part time on 3 days per week.
