OVERVIEW

We are partnering with a fast-growing retail business that has completed a successful turnaround and is now entering its next phase of growth. The business has a strong brand, an ambitious leadership team, and a renewed focus on financial discipline. As a result, they have created a new Group Financial Controller role to help professionalise and scale the finance function. This is a high-impact opportunity for a driven finance leader who wants visibility, autonomy, and a clear pathway into a future Head of Finance position.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Group Financial Controller will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving reporting and analytics, and developing a more commercially focused finance team. The role offers exposure across the entire business and close collaboration with senior stakeholders to support continued profitable growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and develop a finance team of 8 across group accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash
  • Own the month-end close and group consolidation, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
  • Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and controls
  • Deliver clear and insightful management reporting and performance analysis
  • Strengthen financial governance, audit readiness, and statutory compliance
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve cost control and financial performance
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and longer-term strategic initiatives
  • Simplify and bring clarity to complex data across multiple channels and reporting methods

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • ACA qualified, ideally trained in audit
  • Experience in retail or similarly complex operational environments
  • Strong background in audit management, financial controls, and group reporting
  • Comfortable operating in businesses where systems and data are evolving
  • Commercially minded with the ability to analyse and explain financial results
  • Proactive, confident, and willing to challenge existing ways of working
  • Strong people leadership and stakeholder management skills
