About the Opportunity
We’re supporting a client undergoing the largest technology transformation in their history — a major core banking migration to a cloud-based architecture. As part of this journey, we’re looking for an experienced Lead Solution Architect (Payments) to play a critical role in shaping and delivering solutions on a brand-new Payments Platform. This is a high-impact role at the heart of a complex transformation, offering the opportunity to influence architecture, guide design decisions, and work across business and technology teams.
The Role
You will be responsible for the delivery, governance, and assurance of payments solutions, ensuring alignment with target architecture while driving key design decisions. You’ll act as a bridge between business and technology, translating requirements into scalable, future-proof solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead solution design and architectural direction for Payments Platform delivery
- Ensure alignment to enterprise target architecture and transformation strategy
- Define and agree critical design decisions across solution components
- Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Enterprise Architects, and Technical Teams
- Translate business requirements into high-level solution designs
- Guide and mentor a small team of architects within delivery
- Drive architectural best practices across modern, cloud-based environments
Must-Have Experience
- 7+ years in Payments, including 5+ years in Solution Architecture
- Proven track record as a Lead / Enterprise Solution Architect in large-scale transformation programmes
- Deep domain knowledge across payments schemes and processing, including: FPS, CHAPS, BACS, Cards, Cheques
- Strong understanding of accounting flows related to payments processing
- Experience delivering solutions on public cloud platforms (cloud-native / hybrid)
- Expertise in modern architecture patterns: API-led design, Microservices, Event-driven architectures, Containerisation
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across technical and business stakeholders
- Experience leading or managing a team of architects
Nice to Have
- Experience producing architecture artefacts using C4 model frameworks
- Strong senior stakeholder management and influencing skills
