Senior Financial Controller required for an Energy business in London £120,000 - £130,000 + bonus and benefits, dependant on experience. Stanton House are partnering with an organisation within the Energy sector who are seeking to strengthen their Finance function. The business operates across trading, generation and broader energy activities with a strong focus on modernising its financial infrastructure and supporting the transition to a more sustainable future.

The environment is fast-paced and data driven, offering exposure to sophisticated markets, complex financial instruments and ongoing transformation initiatives. As Senior Financial Controller, you will sit at the centre of financial control for a major trading operation, with responsibility overseeing accounting, valuation and external reporting across commodity and foreign-exchange activities.

You will act as the subject matter expert for trading-related financial control, shaping processes, driving improvements and ensuring robust frameworks are in place to support reporting, audit and future scale. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical accounting depth with transformation delivery, while working closely with senior stakeholders across finance, trading and group functions.

To be suitable for this role you must have the following:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
  • Experience in complex environments such as trading, treasury or product control
  • Strong accounting knowledge with in-depth knowledge of IFRS
  • Experience with derivatives, hedge accounting and external financial disclosures
  • Understanding of commodity trading markets and FX reporting
  • Proven experience delivering finance transformation, including process improvements and automation
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex data
  • Experience supporting audit, statutory and group reporting experiences
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple functions

Responsibilities shall include but not limited to:

  • Own financial accounting, valuation and reporting processes for commodity and FX positions
  • Lead improvements in financial control frameworks, including automation and standardisation of processes
  • Act as design authority for trading-related financial control, setting principles and documentation standards
  • Oversee FX reporting, including hedge accounting design, policy interpretation and monitoring
  • Manage month-end close activities, ensuring accuracy across P&L
