We are supporting a well-regarded UK banking/fintech group in recruiting an Interim Group Finance Controller to lead the delivery of year-end reporting and the Group audit, alongside broader finance leadership responsibilities. This is a high-profile role, reporting into the Finance Director, providing technical and commercial finance expertise at a senior level during a critical period of reporting, control and business activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the Annual Report & Accounts, subsidiary financial statements, and other external reporting obligations (e.g., Pillar 3 reporting).
  • Lead the Group’s external audit (EY), managing day-to-day auditor relationships.
  • Maintain and advise on the Group’s accounting policies, including technical accounting matters (e.g., IFRS 9 ECL provisions).
  • Prepare Board Audit Committee papers and presentations.
  • Oversee treasury accounting, including hedge accounting.
  • Drive improvements in processes and controls, including exit readiness and support for the Finance Director and Head of Controls in maturing the finance risk/control landscape.
  • Support ad hoc projects such as product development, M&A, capital transactions, automation/AI initiatives.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA with extensive post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in plc-level group reporting.
  • Banking, financial services or fintech experience with exposure to sector-specific accounting issues.
  • Strong experience preparing Board-level presentations and papers.
  • Proven track record in improving and maturing controls and processes; SOX-level experience is a plus.
  • Collaborative, senior stakeholder management skills; able to influence discussions and act as a role model to junior team members.
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, balancing multiple priorities effectively.
