A high-growth, global technology business operating within the digital payments space is seeking an experienced International Direct Tax Lead to join on a 9-month maternity cover contract. The Role
Reporting to the Head of Tax, you will take ownership of international direct tax matters across multiple jurisdictions. This position combines hands-on technical delivery with strategic advisory responsibilities and leadership of a specialist sub-team. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, optimising tax efficiency, and supporting the business on strategic initiatives including international expansion, new product launches, and corporate transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee international direct tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities
- Lead and develop a high-performing direct tax sub-team
- Act as the primary contact for international tax audits and authority queries
- Partner with senior stakeholders to provide strategic tax advice
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and commercial teams on business initiatives
- Manage relationships with external advisors
- Support on M&A activity, corporate restructuring, and financing projects
- Ensure tax considerations are embedded in operational and strategic decision-making
Candidate Profile
- Significant experience within an in-house tax function or equivalent
- Strong expertise in international direct tax and transfer pricing
- Proven leadership experience managing teams in complex environments
- Strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional tax regulations
- Experience handling tax audits and regulatory engagement
- Background within fintech, technology, banking, or other fast-paced, high-growth environments strongly preferred
- Broad and deep tax experience, with the ability to operate across both strategic and operational matters
- Hands-on and willing to take ownership across the full breadth of responsibilities
