Base pay range

Stanton House is partnering with a highly successful, private equity-backed firm that has recently been acquired by a large-cap PE fund. The company operates in the B2B information and data services sector and is experiencing a strong growth trajectory.

This is an exciting opportunity that offers long-term potential, with the successful candidate potentially stepping into the role of CFO at the end of the current private equity investment hold. You will work closely with the CFO to help build a top-tier Finance Control function, integrate a newly acquired business, and support the company as it executes its ambitious growth plans.

We are looking for a commercially minded Group Financial Controller who can operate at pace and has proven experience in scaling and modernising control functions. This is a key role in helping to build a high-performing finance team with a strong focus on excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall Group Finance Control function, ensuring smooth operations and effective processes.
  • Oversee group reporting, transactional finance, and the management accounting team.
  • Manage a team of over 30 people across London, the US, and remote locations.
  • Ensure key control processes are effectively managed, including audit, tax, treasury, and financial controls.
  • Take responsibility for group tax and treasury, managing the Head of Tax.
  • Support the implementation of a new finance ERP system, ensuring seamless integration.
  • Identify cost optimization opportunities, including offshoring resources where appropriate.
  • Integrate the recently acquired business, focusing on both the target operating model and cultural alignment.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and support future acquisitions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO, providing strategic guidance beyond financial control.
  • Collaborate with commercial leaders to highlight the importance of controls as the business scales.
  • Oversee the group’s risk and governance framework, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
  • Lead the procurement function, providing strategic direction to the Procurement Manager, focusing on cost reductions and improving ESG performance within the supplier base.

Required Experience

  • Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed company, ideally in a similar or slightly more junior role, looking for the next step in your career.
  • A strong background in financial control, with commercial finance experience being an advantage.
  • Experience deploying new finance systems would be a valuable asset.
  • Proven track record in leading teams, especially across multiple geographies.
  • Experience in driving control improvements, upskilling teams, and modernising finance processes.
  • Experience in managing financial transactional teams and driving operational improvements.
  • Commercially minded Financial Controller with a strong understanding of core financial control responsibilities.
  • A proactive problem solver who can drive initiatives forward with creativity and pragmatism.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders and handle difficult conversations constructively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and seeing projects through to completion.
  • Focused on achieving results with a pragmatic approach to execution rather than perfection.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and a proven ability to delegate effectively.
  • Ambitious and eager to work in a PE portfolio company, with a desire to progress to a CFO role.
