The Opportunity
We are working with a private equity-backed UK manufacturing group that is building a high-quality precision engineering platform serving the global Aerospace & Defence market.
The Group is executing an ambitious buy-and-build strategy, partnering with best-in-class manufacturers to create long-term value and strengthen the UK's industrial base. This is a rare opportunity to join the business at an early stage of its journey and play a pivotal role in shaping the finance function as the Group scales.
The Role
The Group Financial Controller will be a hands‑on, technically strong finance leader responsible for building and running the Group's financial control, reporting, and governance framework. Operating in a fast-paced, high-growth, PE-backed environment, this role suits someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also designing systems, processes, and controls that can scale through acquisition.
The role offers broad exposure across financial control, statutory reporting, consolidation, cash management, FP&A, and M&A integration, with close interaction with senior leadership and investors.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Group month‑end close, consolidation, and reporting across all entities
- Prepare and review management accounts, variance analysis, and performance commentary
- Play a key role in acquisition integration, including systems, processes, and reporting alignment
- Establish and maintain robust financial controls, policies, and governance
- Lead year‑end statutory reporting and act as the primary contact for auditors and advisors
- Oversee tax, VAT, payroll, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Support the CFO with PE-level reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Assist with lender and investor reporting
- Support financial due diligence and transaction execution as required
- Drive continuous improvement of finance systems, data quality, and scalability
- Lead and develop a small but growing finance team and partner closely with operational leaders
Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA)
- Strong financial control background
- Experience in high-growth, or buy-and-build businesses highly desirable
- Comfortable in a hands‑on role with broad accountability
- Strong technical accounting skills with a pragmatic, commercial mindset
- Experience with multi‑entity consolidation and integration
- Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast‑moving environment
- A self‑starter and team player
