This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-growth, private-equity-backed telecoms business operating in a fast-moving, highly regulated environment. As the company continues to scale, our client is seeking a Director of Risk & Compliance to play a pivotal role in strengthening risk management, embedding compliance excellence, and supporting sustainable growth.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving effective risk and compliance oversight across the organisation. It goes beyond frameworks and reporting, ensuring that risks and compliance obligations translate into clear accountability, decisive action, and real business value. You will ensure the Board and senior leadership have clear visibility of the most significant risks and material compliance gaps, and that these are actively managed.

This is a non-finance role with no responsibility for financial reporting, accounting, or treasury.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate enterprise-wide risk oversight, ensuring priority risks receive appropriate focus and action.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise key operational, legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Set the standard for high-quality, proportionate mitigation plans with clear ownership and delivery timelines.
  • Ensure risk appetite is clearly understood and consistently applied across the business.
  • Design and maintain a risk-based compliance programme that enables, rather than hinders, the business.
  • Act as a key gatekeeper for change, ensuring systems, processes, and people changes meet regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and drive timely, proportionate responses.
  • Ensure policies are well designed, regularly reviewed, clearly communicated, and embedded in day-to-day operations.
  • Provide clear, actionable reporting to the Board and senior leadership.
  • Hold stakeholders accountable for agreed actions and outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, auditors, and industry bodies.
About you
  • Degree-educated with relevant professional certifications (e.g. CCEP, CRCM, CRMA or equivalent).
  • Proven senior leadership experience in risk and compliance, ideally within telecoms.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and telecoms industry standards.
  • Experience working in private-equity-backed businesses.
  • Proven experience engaging with regulators, including Ofcom.
  • Commercial, pragmatic mindset with the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate risk into actionable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at Board and executive level and drive cultural change.
