Our multi-disciplinary Edinburgh office is home to a talented team of experts across various disciplines, including Urban Design, Town Planning, Economics, Transport, Ecology, Acoustics, and Engineering. We are located just a stone's throw from Edinburgh castle, the vibrant city centre and public transport links.
We are seeking a skilled Senior Urban Designer to join our thriving Northern Masterplanning team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and growing design team in Edinburgh, working on projects that are as varied as the acts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe! Typical projects include major residential led, mixed-use development masterplans and layouts, and public realm work of the highest quality across Scotland and the North. This includes new communities, new settlements, as well as town and city centre masterplanning, and regeneration.
Key Responsibilities:- Working on medium to large-scale residential and mixed-use masterplans and housing layouts
- Contributing to the design process through masterplan development, diagrams, and documentation
- Conducting site appraisals and context analysis to inform design decisions
- Developing innovative and deliverable visions for new settlements and urban extensions
- Producing masterplan drawings, design strategies, and detailed illustrations
- Creating indicative layouts and urban design concepts with strong design rationales
- Producing high-quality hand drawings and utilizing design software
- Supporting the development of design and access statements
- Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders through workshops and exhibitions
- Liaising with technical experts to ensure project feasibility
- Delivering exceptional work within tight deadlines
- Contributing to creative thinking and concept development
- A postgraduate qualification in Urban Design or a related field
- Proven experience in medium to large-scale residential and mixed-use masterplanning, including new settlements and urban extensions
- Strong understanding of urban design principles and best practices
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
