Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Environmental Planner to join our Transportation group in one of our London, Waterloo, Markham, or Hamilton offices. This role is well suited to an environmental planning professional with strong Environmental Assessment, permitting, consultation, and project delivery experience who is looking to contribute to a diverse portfolio of transportation infrastructure projects across Ontario.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support environmental planning tasks and deliverables for transportation infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, rail, transit, airports, and marine facilities.
  • Lead or contribute to Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, provincial and federal EA, and detailed design assignments, including documentation, consultation, and approvals strategies.
  • Coordinate environmental permitting and approval requirements, including desktop reviews, agency correspondence, and input from technical specialists.
  • Design and implement consultation and engagement programs for clients, regulatory agencies, First Nations, community stakeholders, and the public.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, proposals, consultation materials, meeting records, and technical memoranda tailored to project and client requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, First Nations, members of the public, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk for assigned tasks.
  • Support business development through proposal preparation, client relationship-building, pre-positioning activities, and participation in professional or industry events.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team environment.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong understanding of environmental planning, Environmental Assessment, permitting, and approvals processes for infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and coordinate input from technical specialists.
  • Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong listening, judgment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond thoughtfully to client, agency, stakeholder, and public input.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and project deliverables while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing project tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables, with increasing responsibility for project delivery.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working independently with appropriate direction and support.
  • Interest or experience in mentoring junior staff and contributing to team growth and knowledge-sharing.

Preferred Qualifications and Assets

  • Consulting experience in transportation, municipal infrastructure, or land development projects.
  • Experience with community and stakeholder consultation, Indigenous engagement, property access coordination, and/or agency approvals.
  • Familiarity with Ontario environmental planning and approvals processes, including Municipal Class EA requirements and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing project tasks, and supporting successful project delivery.
  • Experience preparing proposals, scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and responses to client requests for proposals.
  • Active participation in client development, strategic planning, professional associations, or industry events.

Education and Experience

  • A university degree or post-graduate college diploma in environmental planning, environmental studies, geography, planning, environmental science, or a related discipline is required.
  • Approximately 10 years of relevant environmental planning experience is preferred, with experience supporting or leading environmental components of transportation infrastructure assignments, including roads, bridges, rail, transit, and related projects.
  • Experience with Municipal Class Environmental Assessments, environmental impact assessments, consultation programs, environmental documentation, and/or coordinating permits and approvals is expected.
