Stantec is working on many of the worldβs largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.
It is a great opportunity to join a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in projects as varied and different as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales, as well as supporting our growing transmission and distribution business. You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines. You will perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards. As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and take ownership of project deliverables.
We work closely with the growing transmission and distribution business and there will also be opportunities to engage in the design and delivery of significant grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design. Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines.
- Perform design, modelling and analysis of electrical and electronic systems to ensure feasibility and compliance with industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with other disciplines to ensure an integrated project design.
- Take line management responsibility for some team members, support business growth and project deliverables.
- Engage with the growing transmission and distribution business and contribute to grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations.
Qualifications / About You
- Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or be working towards.
- Experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors (Energy and Water) is advantageous.
- Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents (single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, equipment sizing and fault rating calculations, load schedules, specifications and reports). Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
- Strong skills in giving technical presentations to clients and design engineers; active participation in design discussions and technical workshops.
