The Opportunity
Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting‑edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. It is a great opportunity to join a growing multidisciplinary team involved in projects as varied as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales.

About You
- Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred or working towards.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
- Experience of design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
- Experience with rotating machinery.
- Knowledge and skills in the planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for projects in the energy sector.
- Competent user of 3D modelling software e.g. Revit or AutoCAD, experience working within a BIM environment, experience of hydropower applications.
- Experience with pump and large‑bore valve specification and selection, and with balance of plant and other systems typical of hydropower applications such as HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression and mechanical services.
Responsibilities
You will work closely with the client and as part of a multidisciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical design and liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce solutions in a timely and cost‑effective manner. You will develop cost‑effective solutions and adopt innovative design solutions in accordance with the client’s requirements.
