This role can be based anywhere in the UK.

It is a great opportunity to join a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in projects as varied as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales, as well as supporting our growing transmission and distribution business. You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines. You will perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.

As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and take ownership of project deliverables. We work closely with the growing transmission and distribution business and there will also be opportunities to engage in the design and delivery of significant grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about sustainable energy and eager to make a significant impact in the industry.

About You

  • Ideally Chartered or hold Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or be working towards.
  • Have experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors, particularly within Energy and Water, is advantageous.
  • Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, calculations for equipment sizing and fault ratings, load schedules, specifications, and reports. Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
