Overview
The Opportunity: Support Stantec’s Electrical Engineering junior and senior electrical engineering roles with technical guidance, internal design reviews and act as Electrical Authorising Engineer for external clients.
Governance & Compliance
- Provide independent professional advice on electrical safety, legislation, standards, and risk management.
- Develop, review, and approve electrical safety rules, authorisation processes, and safe systems of work (e.g., HV/LV isolation, arc flash controls).
- Ensure designs and operations comply with relevant codes, standards, and Stantec’s quality procedures aligned with Stantec’s emphasis on electrical dependability, safety, and efficiency.
Technical Oversight
- Conduct or oversee electrical system reviews, including:
- Power distribution system design validation
- Arc flash studies & hazardous area classification
- UPS/backup generation strategy assurance
- Medical IT/IPS Systems
Authorisation & Competence Management
- Full conversant with HTM 06-01, HTM 06-02, HTM 06-03 and BS 7678 including guidance notes on medical locations.
- Evaluate, appoint, and periodically audit Authorised Persons (APs) and Competent Persons (CPs) for electrical systems.
- Define training, competency frameworks, and technical development paths for electrical staff.
Operational Assurance
- Perform audits of electrical safety management systems, permit to work processes, and maintenance procedures.
- Review significant electrical work packages, switching schedules, system integration activities, or energisation plans.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management and clients in managing electrical risk and compliance across portfolios.
- Provide high level consultation in mission critical or complex building environments, consistent with Stantec’s multidisciplinary engineering approach.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng/MEng).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng).
- Extensive experience in healthcare electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and control systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, HTMs, regulations, and safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide independent electrical safety governance in complex operational settings.
- Good all-round healthcare estates knowledge and interaction with other design and AE disciplines.
