Overview

Graduate Hydrogeologist (Energy) – Birmingham/Shrewsbury – 2026

Location: Birmingham, Shrewsbury, United Kingdom. Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Collection, management and interpretation of data from a wide range of sources, including field investigations.
  • Development of conceptual site models.
  • Preparation of hydrogeological impact assessments to identify potential impacts on the water environment and appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Production of water monitoring schemes to ensure compliance with planning permissions and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting applications for abstraction licences and environmental permits for discharge activities.
  • Preparation of hydrogeological risk assessments using bespoke software to assess the potential risk to the water environment from landfill operation or deposit of waste on land as a recovery operation.
  • Supporting the Hydrology team with flood risk assessments and drainage strategies for our clients.

As a member of the Minerals and Resources team, you will provide technical support to the project team by carrying out field work, data management and analysis, and high-quality report writing related to services in minerals extraction, waste management and land restoration for regulators or private clients. You will work closely with other teams such as the Hydrology team, Environmental Permitting team, and Water team, offering varied career development opportunities.

Examples of work carried out by graduates in the current team include data management using EQuIS, annual environmental monitoring reporting, collecting and collating field hydrometric and water quality data, processing data in Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS, and contributing to hydrogeological impact and risk assessments.

About You

  • A MSc in Hydrogeology (or equivalent).
  • A BSc degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline (geology, geography, mining, environmental science, etc.).
