The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Arboriculturist in our vibrant London office, where you will be part of a market-leading Environmental Services discipline.

About The Role

As a Graduate Arboriculturist, you will join a growing team within the water sector, playing a pivotal role in contributing to significant infrastructure, development, and environmental projects both locally and nationally from day one. This is a hybrid, field-focused position that combines hands-on site survey work with technical data analysis, 3D/GIS mapping, and client consultancy in an office environment. Working alongside experienced arborists and multidisciplinary project teams, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting ground-based visual tree assessments (VTA), hazard evaluations, and condition surveys across urban, rural, and water asset sites.
  • Assisting senior consultants with arboricultural surveys in accordance with BS 5837 guidelines to support planning applications and pre-planning feasibility studies.
  • Evaluating local planning policies, Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and Conservation Area restrictions affecting project constraints.
  • Utilising hand-held GPS, tree management software, and GIS mapping tools to accurately log, process, and present spatial tree survey data.
  • Identifying tree species, structural defects, decay fungi, pests, and biosecurity risks to inform management and retention strategies.
  • Collating field data to produce high-quality Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA), Tree Protection Plans (TPP), and environmental statements.
  • Liaising with ecologists, water sector engineers, transport planners, and clients to integrate tree protection into sustainable project designs.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. We will provide a structured professional progression plan supporting you to achieve professional chartership (such as with the Arboricultural Association or the Institute of Chartered Foresters).

Your Impact

In this role, you will play an essential part in protecting and enhancing natural assets across major infrastructure, water sector, and development schemes. By conducting site surveys and assessing tree health and environmental impact, your work will directly inform sustainable design and resource protection.

About You

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a bachelor’s degree in Arboriculture or a qualification in Forestry, Countryside Management, Forest Management, or Woodland Ecology, you will be:

  • An Adapter: You’re able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
  • A Perseverer: You stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
  • An Eager Learner: You learn from your experiences and the world around you, using this knowledge to anticipate how situations may unfold.
  • A Collaborator: You work effectively with lots of different people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.
  • A Problem-Solver: You love to give your thoughts based on what you see, being unafraid to challenge conventional thinking.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support. Applicants must have an unconditional right to live and work in the UK for an indefinite period without limitation.

  • A competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
