Opportunity Trees are not an afterthought in good infrastructure design. They are part of the story. At Stantec, our Environmental Team works closely with clients to develop solutions that are genuinely sustainable, not just on paper, but in practice. We think differently about the challenges ahead, and we are looking for an Arboriculture Consultant who does the same. If you have built your career doing meaningful arboricultural work and you are ready to do it at a larger scale, alongside a team that truly values what you bring, this could be the right move.

About the Role

We are looking for an Arboriculture Consultant to join our growing environmental team, with the flexibility to be based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices. You will work across a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects spanning the energy and water sectors, with an initial focus across Scotland. Day to day, you will sit within a genuinely multidisciplinary team, working alongside town planners, ecologists, landscape architects and environmental consultants to support the design and delivery of projects where trees and the built environment meet. A typical week might see you undertaking BS5837 tree surveys, preparing arboricultural impact assessments, coordinating TPO applications or leading discussions with tree officers and affected stakeholders. You will support design teams in finding solutions that work around trees where possible, and advise contractors on on‑site tree protection and mitigation. No two weeks look exactly the same, and that variety is something the team genuinely enjoys.

Your Impact

This is a team on an upward trajectory, and you will be part of shaping where it goes. The projects you work on will leave a tangible mark on the landscapes and communities they pass through, and your expertise will be a key part of ensuring that mark is right. As the team grows, so will your opportunities. There is real scope for career progression here, and as Stantec continues to diversify and expand across the UK, the possibilities stretch well beyond your immediate role.

About You

You hold a degree or a minimum Level 3 Arboriculture qualification, such as an HNC Arb, AA Tech Cert or NDip Arb. You have hands‑on experience delivering comprehensive arboricultural reports to tight deadlines, and you are confident in undertaking tree surveys in line with BS5837:2012. You are comfortable working in a design‑and‑build environment, where communication, pragmatism, and an eye for innovative solutions matter just as much as technical knowledge. You are familiar with CAD, GIS and digital survey tools, and you are proactive in managing your workload and, where needed, arboricultural subcontractors. Most of all, you care about doing the work well, and you are looking for a team that feels the same way.
