Are you ready to lead transformative projects in renewable energy? We’re looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Energy team, driving the design and delivery of hydropower and dam projects across the UK. This is your chance to make an impact on sustainable infrastructure while working in a collaborative, people-focused environment.
As a member of our Structural Engineering team, you lead on the delivery of high-quality major structural engineering projects across the energy sector, with a focus on hydropower & dams. In addition, you will be working with our clients across the UK and will play a key role in exceeding their requirements through the technical delivery of projects. You will report directly to our Energy Structural Engineering Lead; developing our structural knowledge and capability, and supporting internal opportunities in sectors beyond energy. This role can be based at any of our UK offices, with flexible hybrid working options.
In this role you will carry out structural engineering design for concrete, steel and masonry structures within the energy sector. You will also carry out structural inspections and produce accurate reports that define requirements for asset maintenance and modification to meet client and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural engineering design and delivery of major energy projects, from concept and scheme design to detailed design, tender, and construction packages.
- Oversee the preparation of calculation packages for submission to regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Provide technical oversight and review contributions from project engineers and technicians.
- Promote innovation in design while maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to Stantec’s quality assurance processes.
Team Management
- Manage and develop graduate engineers, engineers, and technicians within your team.
- Take ownership of resource planning, ensuring the efficient allocation of team capacity across projects.
- Contribute to divisional initiatives such as task groups and design innovation.
Client And Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and contractors.
- Support the preparation of fee proposals, bids, and ITTs.
- Participate in client networking and represent the team at industry events, with a focus on cultivating new opportunities.
About You
- MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or actively working towards it) with either the IStructE/ICE.
- Proven experience in structural design across various sectors, ideally including hydropower and dams.
- Proficiency in analysis, modelling, and hand calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams on projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients and inspire team members.
