The Opportunity
Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Civil Engineer in our High Wycombe office, where you will be part of our market-leading Water Power & Dams team within Energy & Resources.
About The Role
As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will join a collaborative team focused on the design and development of cutting-edge dams, hydropower, and pumped storage solutions. You will work closely with project managers, technical leaders, and design engineers to deliver practical and innovative engineering layouts. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the civil design and assessment of complex hydraulic structures, including channels, culverts, spillways, and stilling basins.
- Assisting with engineering tasks across the asset lifecycle, including client-facing concept design, remediation, and detailed design for design-and-build (D&B) contractors.
- Integrating closely with associated disciplines such as structural, geotechnical, and mechanical & electrical (M&E) engineering to create integrated project solutions.
- Working within a full 3D design environment to review models, create sketches, and manage data within a common data environment.
- Contributing to the production of high-quality technical specifications, designs, and engineering reports.
We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Your Impact
In this role, you will play a vital role in strengthening UK energy security and driving the transition to clean, sustainable power. Supporting landmark projects—such as Coire Glas in Scotland, as well as major UK water company initiatives involving the inspection, remediation, and development of new dams and reservoirs—your civil engineering contributions will directly support major renewable energy and water storage infrastructure. Working alongside industry leaders, your daily efforts will influence nationally and internationally significant infrastructure that safeguards water resources and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations.
About You
At Stantec, we value your potential over experience. Along with a degree in Civil Engineering (or a closely related discipline) and an active interest in the energy transition and power sectors, you will bring:
- An Analytical Mind: Ability to apply civil engineering principles to solve complex infrastructure and network challenges.
- A Communicator: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- A Collaborator: A proactive, adaptable mindset with a desire to learn from senior engineers and a willingness to take ownership of engineering tasks.
- A Problem-Solver: A passion for sustainability and a desire to challenge conventional thinking to deliver cleaner, more efficient energy solutions.
Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support. Applicants must have an unconditional right to live and work in the UK for an indefinite period without limitation.
