The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Urban Drainage Modeller in our Cardiff office, where you will support urban drainage and wastewater network modelling projects for major regulated water companies across the UK and Ireland. Stantec’s wastewater network modelling discipline has developed a reputation as one of the industry leaders. In Cardiff, you will join a team of 12 modellers with principal and senior support, working as part of an integrated regional team of around 30 modellers across our Wales, West and Midlands offices. The team works closely with Civils and Water Quality disciplines, enabling strong collaboration across multidisciplinary frameworks, and also works collaboratively with our modelling team in India.

About The Role

Working alongside senior urban drainage and wastewater network modellers, you will support work predominantly for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, as well as Wessex Water and South West Water. You will be involved in storm overflow programmes, flooding and growth projects, and other client-led urban drainage work. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Supporting urban drainage modelling work using specialist modelling software, including ICM.
  • Contributing to storm overflow programmes, including work that supports Zero Harm status for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water storm overflows and compliance with GN066.
  • Helping assess flooding and growth-related challenges across urban drainage networks.
  • Supporting network investigations to help identify the root cause of reported operational issues.
  • Working collaboratively with Civils, Water Quality and other modelling teams across the region.
  • Developing your modelling capability through training, mentoring and hands-on project work.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The professional progression plan for this role will support you towards CIWEM chartership.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting projects that improve water quality, reduce pollution and strengthen the resilience of urban drainage networks. Your work will contribute to improving storm overflow performance, protecting properties from hydraulic flooding and supporting investigations that help clients better understand and manage drainage network issues.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.
