The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Hydrogeologist in our Birmingham office, where you will be part of our Water Environment discipline and help deliver high-quality hydrogeology, groundwater and environmental assessment work for clients across the water sector and beyond. The successful candidate will join a Birmingham-based Water Environment team of approximately six people, including around four hydrogeology specialists, with support from experienced colleagues across our wider UK network. You will support projects including groundwater modelling and hydrogeological assessments, water resource assessments, groundwater abstraction and borehole design, environmental impact assessments, Water Framework Directive assessments, major infrastructure and environmental projects, and groundwater and hydrometric field monitoring.

About The Role

By joining our Hydrogeology team, you will help assess groundwater systems, interpret environmental data and support the delivery of robust, evidence-led solutions. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking groundwater modelling and hydrogeological assessments to support water and environmental projects.
  • Collecting, processing and analysing groundwater and hydrometric field data.
  • Processing and interpreting environmental data using GIS and other analytical tools.
  • Contributing to water quality, environmental impact and Water Framework Directive assessments.
  • Preparing technical reports and supporting project delivery in collaboration with senior specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing your technical understanding of hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, GIS and environmental assessment through hands-on project work and structured training.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. This role will actively support progression with the Geological Society of London or CIWEM, alongside hands-on training in hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, GIS and environmental assessment.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting projects that improve understanding of groundwater systems, water resources and environmental impacts. Your work will contribute to sustainable decision-making across public water company, environmental, regulatory and major infrastructure projects.

We are looking for candidates with a bachelor’s degree in geology, geography, environmental science, civil engineering or a relevant discipline. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, while experience with GIS software, Python, groundwater modelling such as MODFLOW, and analytical or numerical modelling would be beneficial.

About you:

At Stantec, we value your potential over experience. Along with your bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, or other relevant discipline, we’d love to receive your application if you are:

  • An adapter: you’re able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
  • A Perseverer: you stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
  • A focussed individual: you focus on what matters, tuning out distractions to perform effectively in any situation.
  • An Eager Learner: you learn from your experiences and the world around you, using this knowledge to anticipate how situations may unfold.
  • A Collaborator: you work effectively with lots of different people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that colleagues are able to provide the appropriate level of support.

What we can offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
  • Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long-term career at Stantec
  • Professional progression plan, supporting you to become chartered with ICE.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment and Early Careers peer group and wider ERG network.

Applicants must have an unconditional right to live and work in the UK for an indefinite period without limitation. We look forward to receiving your application!
