Water is at the centre of everything. It sustains life, shapes ecosystems and underpins communities across the UK and beyond. Securing a resilient, sustainable water supply for the future has never felt more urgent or important. At Stantec, our Water Resources team is playing a central role in meeting that challenge. From Strategic Resource Option investigations to Water Resource Management Plans and Drought Plans, we are working with water companies, regulators and stakeholders to deliver solutions that will matter for generations to come.

We have opportunities across a number of UK offices including Leeds, Birmingham, Reading and Shrewsbury, with other locations considered for the right person. It is an exciting time to be working in water resources. Ofwat's most significant infrastructure investment since privatisation is now under way, with billions committed to boosting water supply, nature‑based solutions, leakage reduction and smart metering. Stantec is deeply embedded in that work and your role will sit at the heart of it.

Day to day, you will support the delivery of water resource projects across WRMPs, Drought Plans, WINEP investigations and water resource modelling using tools such as Pywr, Aquator and Miser. You will apply strong numerical skills to hydrological analysis, contribute to technical reporting and collaborate flexibly across our wider Water and Environment department, working alongside groundwater, water quality and flood risk teams. You will also develop your expertise in demand management and environmental assessments including HRA, SEA and WFD, with the full support of a team that is invested in your growth.

The work you contribute to here will help shape how the UK manages its water supply for decades ahead. Whether you are feeding into a regional strategy, supporting a drought plan or contributing to a supply‑demand balance assessment, your analytical thinking and technical skills will be helping water companies and regulators make better, more confident decisions. This is work that reaches far beyond the spreadsheet or the model. It touches the lives of communities, the health of rivers and the long‑term resilience of a resource that nobody can afford to take for granted.

You bring several years of experience in the water industry, whether from a consultancy, water company, regulatory body or academic background. You have a solid grasp of UK water resource management and drought planning regulations, and practical experience contributing to WRMPs, drought plans or regional strategies. You are comfortable with hydrological analysis using tools such as Excel, HYSIM or GR6J, proficient in GIS and ideally have direct experience with water resources modelling tools such as Pywr, Miser or Aquator. Strong numerical skills and a willingness to keep learning are just as important to us as ticking every box on the list. You thrive in fast‑paced, multidisciplinary teams. You are curious, collaborative and motivated by the idea that your work leaves the water environment in a better state than you found it. We do not expect you to meet every requirement listed here, so if this feels like the right direction for your career, please do get in touch.

Benefits include competitive salary, bonus schemes, enhanced pension plan, annual leave with the option to buy/sell additional days, private medical insurance, group income protection & life assurance as standard, discounted gym membership and many more perks. Industry‑leading training and development, paid professional subscriptions, and a professional progression plan supporting you to become chartered with ICE. Supportive and collaborative team environment, early‑career peer group and extensive ERG network. Hybrid / Flexible working: Enjoy a healthy work‑life balance with our hybrid approach to flexible working.
