The transmission and distribution sector is evolving at pace, driven by increasing energy demand, regulatory change, ambitious decarbonisation targets, and rapid technological innovation. This transformation is creating exciting opportunities to deliver critical infrastructure that underpins the UK’s energy future. As part of our continued growth, we are keen to connect with experienced HV Cable Design Engineers at Senior and Principal levels to join our team. This is your chance to contribute to a wide variety of impactful projects, working with leading clients across the UK and playing an important role in the energy transition.
About the Role
Working as part of our specialist cable team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of HV cable systems across a diverse range of projects, including substations, major renewable developments, HVDC interconnectors, and offshore grid infrastructure. You will be involved across key design stages—from concept and FEED through to detailed design—supporting and leading the development of cable installation solutions. This includes cable routing layouts, trench and trenchless design, bonding and phasing arrangements, and jointing and termination strategies. Collaboration will be central to your role, as you work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and efficient design outcomes. You will also engage with key Transmission & Distribution clients, applying your technical expertise to deliver high‑quality, standards‑compliant solutions across complex projects.
Your Impact
In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering the cable infrastructure that enables the safe and efficient transmission of power across the network. Your expertise will directly support the development of reliable, high‑performance systems that are essential to meeting the UK’s growing energy demands. By contributing across the full design lifecycle, you will help ensure that cable systems are optimised for constructability, performance, and long‑term reliability. Your ability to coordinate across disciplines will help resolve design challenges early, improving overall project efficiency and reducing risk. You will also contribute to the growth and capability of the wider team, sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced engineers, while helping to embed best practice and innovation in cable design. Ultimately, your work will support the delivery of sustainable energy infrastructure and play a key role in advancing the UK’s transition to a lower‑carbon future.
You are a proactive and technically capable HV Cable Design Engineer with a strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems. You are comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and bring a solution‑focused approach to engineering challenges.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Progress towards or achievement of Chartered Engineer status (preferred)
- Strong experience in the design of HV cable systems across concept, FEED, and detailed design stages
- Practical knowledge of cable installation design, including routing, trench and trenchless solutions, bonding, phasing, pulling, termination, and jointing arrangements
- Experience performing cable sizing calculations, ideally using tools such as CYMCAP, in line with international standards
- The ability to coordinate effectively across disciplines to resolve technical challenges
- Familiarity with key UK Transmission & Distribution clients and standards
- Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, alongside Microsoft Office applications
You will also bring a collaborative mindset and a passion for developing innovative, practical solutions that contribute to successful project outcomes and support the wider energy transition.
