A briefing form has been completed for this role. The successful candidate will join a Birmingham-based Water Environment team of approximately six people, including around four hydrogeology specialists, with support from experienced colleagues across our wider UK network. You will support projects including groundwater modelling and hydrogeological assessments, water resource assessments, groundwater abstraction and borehole design, environmental impact assessments, Water Framework Directive assessments, major infrastructure and environmental projects, and groundwater and hydrometric field monitoring. By joining our Hydrogeology team, you will help assess groundwater systems, interpret environmental data and support the delivery of robust, evidence-led solutions. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking groundwater modelling and hydrogeological assessments to support water and environmental projects.
  • Collecting, processing and analysing groundwater and hydrometric field data.
  • Processing and interpreting environmental data using GIS and other analytical tools.
  • Contributing to water quality, environmental impact and Water Framework Directive assessments.
  • Preparing technical reports and supporting project delivery in collaboration with senior specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing your technical understanding of hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, GIS and environmental assessment through hands-on project work and structured training.

This role will actively support progression with the Geological Society of London or CIWEM, alongside hands-on training in hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, GIS and environmental assessment.

Your Impact This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting projects that improve understanding of groundwater systems, water resources and environmental impacts. Your work will contribute to sustainable decision-making across public water company, environmental, regulatory and major infrastructure projects.

We are looking for candidates with a bachelor's degree in geology, geography, environmental science, civil engineering or a relevant discipline. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, while experience with GIS software, Python, groundwater modelling such as MODFLOW, and analytical or numerical modelling would be beneficial.
