Overview

The Energy Transition is the fundamental shift underway in how we, as a global community, produce, distribute, and consume energy, with the overarching goal of transitioning to a lower carbon future. Stantec is looking to speak with Principal Mechanical Engineers for future opportunities in the Energy & Resources team. Roles can be based in any of our UK offices, ideally reachable from the Midlands or Newcastle. Working as part of our Waste and Generation Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects including conventional EfW plants, district heating, gasification projects, hydrogen generation schemes and multiple biogas production projects. In this role you will be involved in the whole project life cycle, from optioneering through to detailed design and installation. You will be involved with feasibility studies, site surveys and investigations. You will work collaboratively with clients, partners and other team members to develop designs and project-wide solutions across a wide variety of projects across Stantec's Energy and Resources sector. As designers in the construction/energy/waste sectors it is incumbent on us to take our responsibility for HSE matters seriously and we foster a culture of open scrutiny and continuous improvement in these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Energy & Resources team on projects including EfW plants, district heating, hydrogen generation schemes and biogas production projects.
  • Involve yourself in the whole project life cycle, from optioneering through to detailed design and installation.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys and investigations.
  • Collaborate with clients, partners and team members to develop designs and project-wide solutions.
  • Produce technical specifications across a range of technologies (e.g., steam, piping, hydrogen, biomass, EfW plants) and prepare schedules and reports.
  • Assist with general arrangement drawings, 3D models and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
  • Create specifications and scoping documents for award of construction packages and assess vendor designs and progress.
  • Communicate technical updates to clients and team members effectively.
  • Support our values of client focus, designing with community in mind, collaboration and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Experience within Mechanical Engineering or a related field, ideally with energy/power sector or related process plant experience.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience producing technical specifications, schedules and reports across a range of technologies (e.g., Steam, piping, hydrogen, biomass, EfW plants).
  • Ability to support collaborative design outputs and communicate technical updates to clients and team members.
  • Experience creating General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models and P&ID and in evaluating vendor designs.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to develop project-wide solutions and ensure HSE considerations are integrated into design and delivery.
