The water sector is undergoing significant transformation, with increased investment driving the need for more resilient, sustainable and efficient infrastructure. We’re looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Water team, based in Birmingham, Redditch, Derby, Bristol or Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role within our EICA capability, delivering complex engineering solutions, influencing technical excellence and supporting the continued growth of our Electrical Engineering teams across the Midlands and South West.

You’ll work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where you can:

  • Lead the delivery of electrical and EICA design solutions across major water and wastewater projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors and internal specialists to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
  • Mentor developing engineers and contribute to the growth of our technical capability.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting delivery from early feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support. You will be responsible for developing and reviewing electrical design solutions, ensuring technical quality, compliance and best practice are maintained throughout project delivery. Working closely with Project Managers, discipline leads, clients, contractors and supply chain partners, you will help coordinate multidisciplinary designs, resolve technical challenges and deliver solutions that meet operational, environmental and regulatory requirements. You will also play an important role in supporting the development of engineers within the team through mentoring, knowledge sharing and providing technical guidance, while contributing to the continued improvement of Stantec’s Electrical Engineering capability.

Your technical expertise will help deliver critical water infrastructure that supports communities, protects the environment and improves the resilience of essential services across the UK. Through your leadership, you’ll influence engineering decisions, shape project outcomes and help clients deliver sustainable solutions that respond to growing environmental and operational challenges. You’ll also have the opportunity to strengthen our teams, develop future engineering talent and contribute to Stantec’s continued growth as a leader in sustainable infrastructure design.

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer who combines strong technical capability with a collaborative approach and the ability to lead and influence others.

Essential

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional registration.
  • Experience delivering electrical or EICA engineering solutions within complex infrastructure environments.
  • Proven experience supporting or leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering design principles, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Experience producing and reviewing deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Control Philosophies and technical reports.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders and project teams.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the UK water sector.
  • Background in utilities, energy, infrastructure or other regulated industries.
  • Experience contributing to technical workshops, design reviews or HAZOP processes.
  • Experience supporting bids, frameworks and client relationship development.
