The global Energy Transition is reshaping how we produce, distribute and consume energy - driving a fundamental shift toward a lower‑carbon future. At Stantec, we are committed to being at the forefront of this transformation, helping clients deliver innovative, sustainable and resilient solutions that will define the next generation of energy infrastructure.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Principal Process Engineer for future opportunities within our Energy & Resources team. This role would ideally be based in Redditch, Newcastle, Birmingham or Manchester, and offers the chance to contribute to some of the most exciting and impactful projects in the sector. You will join our Waste & Generation team, working across a diverse portfolio that includes conventional EfW plants, district heating networks, gasification schemes, hydrogen generation projects, and multiple biogas facilities. This is your opportunity to help shape the engineering solutions that will power a more sustainable future.

The Role

As a Principal Process Engineer, you will lead multidisciplinary project teams and guide the delivery of innovative, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions. You will work closely with global experts, applying your technical knowledge to solve complex challenges and support clients across the full project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams
  • Leading digital delivery strategies, from process modelling and mass balances to P&IDs
  • Using appropriate software tools to develop solutions and ensure successful project outcomes
  • Managing project scope, risk, budgets and team performance
  • Mentoring and coaching process engineers to support their professional growth
  • Supporting safe design practices and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in HSE
  • Collaborating with clients both on‑site and remotely to ensure alignment and successful delivery
  • Playing a central role in shaping project direction, driving technical excellence and ensuring that our solutions deliver real value for clients and communities

Your Impact

Your work will directly influence how energy is generated, recovered and utilised across the UK and beyond. By leading the development of sustainable process solutions, you will help clients transition to cleaner technologies, optimise performance and reduce environmental impact. You will guide teams through complex engineering challenges, ensuring that designs are safe, efficient and future‑ready. Your leadership will help elevate the capability of our process engineering community – supporting the next generation of engineers as they grow into world‑class specialists. In a sector where innovation and sustainability are essential, your impact will extend far beyond individual projects, contributing to the wider transformation of the energy landscape.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will be degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline, with experience in the energy, water, or broader process industries. Experience across both would be highly valued. You must also be a member of a relevant engineering institution such as IChemE. You will bring:

  • Strong technical leadership experience across multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience managing people, tasks, budgets, scope and risk
  • Confidence working closely with clients, both on‑site and remotely
  • A commitment to safe design and continuous improvement
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for delivering sustainable engineering solutions

Most importantly, you will embody our values: client focus, designing with community in mind, collaboration, and service excellence.
