We don’t just deliver projects; we apply genuinely new ways of working to develop innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions that address the world’s most pressing climate challenges. We are looking for a driven Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our ambitious regional teams across the UK and Ireland—collaborative groups of like-minded professionals who love to challenge conventional thinking and meet unprecedented industry-wide efficiency targets.

This is a milestone year for us as the AMP8 water investment cycle reaches its peak. You will play a pivotal role in supporting our major infrastructure programmes for key clients such as United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, Northumbrian Water, Dŵr Cymru (Welsh Water), and South West Water. Beyond the water sector, our regional hubs are increasingly diversified, offering you the chance to apply your expertise to the energy transition, coastal resilience, and large-scale community developments. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary engineering and design teams, providing high-level technical advice to contractors and ensuring that geotechnical excellence is at the heart of our delivery.

At Stantec, we believe that your best work happens when you have a healthy work-life blend. We offer a truly agile working model that balances home and office life, supported by a culture of continuous learning and development. As we continue to grow and diversify our UK & Ireland business, you will find ample scope for career progression, with opportunities to lead complex projects and mentor the next generation of engineers in a friendly, inclusive environment.

In this senior position, you will be a key contributor to the technical success of our regional portfolios. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical Delivery: Leading the preparation of complex desk studies and interpretative geotechnical reports for a variety of ground conditions across the UK and Ireland.
  • Design & Analysis: Undertaking and overseeing the analysis of sophisticated geotechnical structures, ensuring resilience and efficiency are built in.
  • Collaboration: Working seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to provide actionable ground risk intelligence to clients and contractors.
  • Mentorship: Supporting the growth of our graduate and junior engineers, sharing your expertise to maintain our high standards of technical excellence.
  • Digital Innovation: Utilising advanced data tools and digital workflows to streamline ground investigation and design processes.

About You: You are a technically curious engineer who holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline. As a Senior member of the team, you are a Chartered member of a relevant institution, such as the ICE or the Geological Society, or you are in the very final stages of achieving this status.

Your professional background includes extensive experience in preparing complex desk studies, conducting site inspections, and—most importantly—authoring detailed interpretative geotechnical reports and undertaking the analysis of sophisticated geotechnical structures. You bring more than just technical proficiency; you bring a passion for delivering quality, nature-positive solutions. You are an expert at translating ground risk into actionable design intelligence, and you thrive in an environment where digital innovation and sustainability are the default settings.

If you are ready to take a key role on a team shaping the future of UK and Irish infrastructure, we would love to hear from you.
