The Opportunity
Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Flood Risk Consultant in our Birmingham, Cambridge or Manchester office. As a key member of our Infrastructure team, you will contribute directly to major river, coastal, and flood risk infrastructure schemes- delivering resilient engineering solutions that protect communities and society from climate impacts.
About the Role
As a Graduate Flood Risk Consultant, you will join an innovative team delivering crucial flood alleviation, river restoration, and coastal protection projects across the UK. Using cutting-edge TUFLOW modelling and GIS tools, you will assess complex surface water, fluvial, and tidal mechanisms to shape resilient infrastructure developments and support early-stage site optioneering.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Utilising TUFLOW and GIS tools to evaluate river hydraulics, coastal flooding, and surface water interactions.
- Preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and sustainable drainage strategies for major infrastructure and development schemes.
- Collaborating with river, coastal, and civils teams to explore technical flood mitigation options and design resilient schemes.
- Partnering with developers, local authorities, and statutory bodies (such as the Environment Agency) to tackle flood risk issues and secure approvals.
We will provide a structured progression plan supporting you to achieve chartership status (C.WEM, CSci, CEng, or CEnv) with bodies such as CIWEM or ICE.
Your Impact
In this role, your technical modelling and spatial assessments will directly influence the design of major river corridors, coastal defences, and critical infrastructure networks. By embedding climate resilience into early-stage infrastructure design, you will safeguard vulnerable communities from flooding and help deliver sustainable outcomes.
About You
At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Coastal Engineering, Water Resources, or GIS (accredited by CIWEM or ICE), you will be:
- A Perseverer – You stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
- An Adapter – You're able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
- A Focused Individual – You focus on what matters, tuning out distractions to perform effectively in any situation.
- A Collaborator – You work effectively with lots of different people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.
- An Eager Learner – You learn from your experiences and the world around you, using this knowledge to anticipate how situations may unfold.
Please note that graduates are expected to work from the office four days per week to ensure sufficient time with their team and the right level of support. Applicants must have the unconditional right to live and work in the UK indefinitely, without limitation.
