Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.
You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines. You will perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.
As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and take ownership of project deliverables. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design.

About You
- Ideally Chartered or hold Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or be working towards.
- Have experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors).
- Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential.
- Electrical experience in other sectors, particularly within Energy and Water, is advantageous.
- Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, calculations for equipment sizing and fault ratings, load schedules, specifications, and reports.
- Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
- Strong skills in giving technical presentations to clients and design engineers.
- Active participation in collaborative design discussions and technical workshops.
