The UK energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by rising demand, evolving regulations, and ambitious net-zero targets. Innovation is at the heart of this change, creating opportunities to deliver sustainable infrastructure that will have a lasting impact. We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join Stantec’s Energy & Resources team and be part of this exciting journey. Working across four key sectors—Waterpower & Dams, Waste & Generation, Transmission & Distribution, and Minerals & Resources—you will contribute to a broad and diverse portfolio of projects that support the transition to cleaner, more resilient energy systems. This is your opportunity to work at the forefront of the energy transition, playing a meaningful role in shaping the infrastructure of the future.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be involved in projects across the full lifecycle—from early-stage concept design through to detailed design and site support. You will work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering innovative engineering solutions across a wide range of complex and technically challenging energy projects. Your work will span cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage schemes such as Coire Glas, Koysha, and Dinorwig, alongside broader energy projects including energy-from-waste facilities, nuclear, hydrogen generation, and transmission and distribution infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with project managers, technical leaders, and clients, contributing to both advisory and delivery roles. This will include everything from concept design and Owner’s Engineer duties through to contractor-facing detailed design, troubleshooting, installation support, and due diligence activities.

In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering the civil engineering solutions that underpin critical energy infrastructure projects. Your work will directly support the development of sustainable energy systems, helping clients navigate complex challenges while meeting environmental and efficiency goals. By contributing across multiple sectors and project stages, you will help ensure that engineering solutions are both technically robust and practically deliverable. Your ability to collaborate across disciplines—integrating civil, structural, geotechnical, and M&E inputs—will be key to delivering fully coordinated and effective designs. You will also bring value through your involvement in advisory and assurance activities, helping clients make informed decisions and manage risk throughout the project lifecycle. Through your technical expertise, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset, you will help drive quality, innovation, and continuous improvement across the team. Ultimately, your contribution will support the delivery of impactful projects that play a crucial role in advancing the UK’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

You are a proactive and motivated Civil Engineer with a strong interest in the energy sector and a desire to work on projects that make a real difference. You bring a solid technical foundation, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with the Engineering Council and ICE
  • Experience in civil design across one or more of the following sectors:
    • Waterpower and dams
    • Hydropower and pumped storage
    • Advanced digestion and energy from waste
    • Transmission and distribution projects
  • A strong understanding of how multidisciplinary teams integrate to deliver effective engineering solutions
  • Experience producing technical specifications, designs, and reports, with close coordination across civil, structural, geotechnical, and M&E disciplines
  • Ideally, experience delivering designs for both end clients and design & build contractors
  • Confidence working within a 3D design environment and Common Data Environments (CDEs)
  • A collaborative and client-focused approach, aligned to delivering high-quality outcomes and service excellence

You will also be engaged in the wider engineering community, staying connected to industry developments, best practices, and innovative solutions that help drive success for clients and projects alike.
