The UK's heritage sits beneath some of its most ambitious infrastructure. Every major water, highway, and infrastructure project we deliver has the potential to uncover, protect and sensitively manage the archaeological and historic environment that lies in its path. At Stantec, we take that responsibility seriously, and we are looking for Heritage Consultants who do too.
As AMP8 gathers momentum and our UK and Ireland operations continue to grow, we are welcoming expressions of interest from Archaeological Consultants at various career stages.
About The Role
You will join our Heritage team within the Environmental Assessment group, working across the UK on projects for major water, highways and infrastructure clients. This is genuinely varied work, from data searches and desk-based assessments to client liaison, negotiation with LPA archaeological and heritage advisors, risk analysis and the formulation of mitigation strategies for schemes ranging from the small-scale to the nationally significant. Depending on your experience, you will take on project management responsibilities, contribute to mapping and heritage screening exercises, and play an active role in delivering high-quality historic environment consultancy advice across a wide range of project types. The scope of the work shifts regularly, and new challenges often present themselves. That variety is something the team genuinely values. You will work within professional, collaborative, multidisciplinary teams, all focused on delivering world‑class solutions for clients and the communities around them. GIS skills would be a welcome addition to your toolkit.
Your Impact
The heritage advice you provide will shape how some of the UK's largest and most iconic infrastructure projects engage with the historic environment. Your assessments and mitigation strategies will ensure that what lies beneath is understood, respected and, where possible, preserved for future generations. This is also a role where your own story matters. We are committed to your development, and our goal is to support your career progression in a way that genuinely increases your expertise, your confidence and your job satisfaction over the long term.
About You
You hold a degree in Archaeology or a heritage-related subject, and you are ideally a corporate member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and/or the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, or working towards membership within twelve months of appointment. You bring sound multi-period knowledge of the British archaeological resource and a solid understanding of the UK's legislative, consultancy and national planning policy framework. You write reports clearly and to a high standard, and you approach client relationships with the focus and professionalism that complex, high‑profile projects demand. Most importantly, you share our commitment to doing heritage consultancy well, with genuine care for the environments, communities and histories that your work touches.
