Stanmore is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer – Civil to provide senior technical leadership across capital and operational sustaining projects in mining. This is a key leadership role for a highly capable civil engineer who enjoys influencing outcomes, providing engineering assurance, and mentoring project teams while working on complex, high-value projects.
Reporting to the Projects Superintendent, you will be the technical leader for civil engineering across the project lifecycle—from early concept and feasibility through to construction, commissioning, and handover. You will work closely with site teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure civil works are delivered safely, compliantly, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior civil engineering leadership across greenfield and brownfield projects
- Act as the technical authority for civil design, standards, and execution
- Lead design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering
- Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, statutory requirements, and site standards
- Support tender evaluations, contractor selection, and scope clarification
- Provide engineering support during construction, resolving technical queries and non-conformances
- Identify and manage engineering risk through robust design and assurance processes
- Mentor and coach project and junior engineers
- Champion safety in design and construction activities
About You
You are a highly experienced civil engineer with a strong track record delivering complex projects in mining, resources, or heavy industry environments. You are comfortable providing technical direction, making sound engineering decisions, and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering
- 10+ years’ experience in civil engineering, ideally within mining or heavy infrastructure
- Proven experience delivering large-scale capital projects
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and regulatory requirements
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience in coal mining or large-scale earthworks environments
- Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering or Project Management
