Description
Transition and Inclusion Officer
(1-Year Fixed Term Contract, Part-time - 0.8 FTE)
Help Students Make a Positive Start at College
A successful transition into college can make a real difference to a learner's confidence, engagement and future success. We are looking for a Transition and Inclusion Officer to help ensure that learners, particularly those who may face barriers to learning, participation or wellbeing, receive the right support from the start of their college journey.
Working with schools, families, learners, College staff and external agencies, you will identify needs early, coordinate effective transition arrangements and help put practical support in place. This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusion and supporting young people to make a positive move into further education.
Join Us at an Exciting Time
Stanmore College is undergoing a £60 million redevelopment, creating a modern, sustainable campus with new teaching spaces and facilities for our students. With the new campus taking shape, this is an exciting time to join us and be part of the College's next chapter.
As part of our Learning Support team, you will play an important role in strengthening the transition experience for learners and helping create an inclusive environment where students can feel supported, participate fully and achieve their potential.
The Role
Working closely with schools, families and colleagues across the College, you will coordinate transition arrangements for learners who may require additional support and help ensure their needs are understood before they start at College.
You will:
- Coordinate an inclusive transition programme, including transition meetings, visits, familiarisation activities and summer transition programmes.
- Identify vulnerable and disadvantaged learners at an early stage and assess potential barriers to learning, attendance, engagement and wellbeing.
- Work with schools, SENCOs, DSLs, local authorities, parents/carers and other professionals to gather and share relevant information.
- Develop personalised transition arrangements for learners who require additional support.
- Build positive relationships with learners and ensure their views, strengths, aspirations and concerns inform transition planning.
- Work with curriculum, safeguarding and Student Services teams to ensure appropriate support is in place.
- Help learners access financial assistance, bursaries, travel support, learning resources and wellbeing services.
- Monitor the attendance, engagement, progress and wellbeing of learners receiving enhanced transition support, identifying where further intervention may be required.
- Maintain accurate records and use learner and transition data to identify emerging barriers and areas for improvement.
- Contribute to inclusion, safeguarding and quality improvement activity, including sharing trends, outcomes and recommendations.
- Participate in open events, transition activities, multi‑agency meetings and other activities that support learner engagement.
Why This Role Matters
For some young people, the move from school to college can bring additional challenges. The right information, relationships and support at an early stage can help remove barriers and give learners greater confidence as they begin their college journey.
In this role, you will help make sure that individual needs are understood and that support is coordinated effectively. Your work will help learners settle into College, engage with their education and access the opportunities available to them.
About You
You will have experience supporting young people in an education, youth, inclusion, safeguarding or pastoral setting, with an understanding of SEND and the barriers that can affect learning, participation and wellbeing. Experience of transition planning and working with schools, families or external agencies is essential.
You will be confident building positive relationships with young people, managing competing priorities and working collaboratively to provide effective support.
