We are a flourishing training practice with 12,600 patients, offering a fantastic opportunity to join our team. This GP role is to backfill sickness leave, therefore is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract, however there may be an opportunity to extend / become permanent. Up to 7 sessions, which will include CPD. Start date: ASAP. We have an excellent reputation for innovation, organisation and a strong focus on achieving a healthy work‑life balance for the whole team.
Our team consists of 8 GPs (2 of whom are previous GP Registrars), 4 NPs, 2 Pharmacists, 4 PNs, 3 HCAs, a Nursing Associate, a Training Nursing Associate, and a very experienced admin team. Excellent patient feedback. CQC OUTSTANDING rating – in the top 4 % of practices in England.
Main duties of the job
- Flexibility with clinic start and finish times and catch‑up slots.
- Standard clinic is 14 patients, mixed face‑to‑face and telephone. No extras.
- Freshly filtered coffee breaks scheduled at 10:30 every day for all GPs.
- Lunch breaks with the team.
- Clinical lunch meetings weekly (hybrid face‑to‑face and Zoom access).
- Monthly practice training afternoon.
- CPD one session per week (pro‑rated).
- Very low visit rate – 1‑2 per week per GP.
- Very low prescriptions work managed by pharmacists.
- Very low incoming letters work managed by admin and pharmacist.
- Teaching opportunities: GP registrars, 3rd year medical students.

About us
Our current clinical team consists of 8 GPs, 4 NPs, 3 Pharmacists, 4 PNs, 3 HCAs and successful ARRS roles including Nursing Associate, Training Nursing Associates, Care Coordinators and Social Prescriber Link Worker. We also have a very experienced admin team. We encourage an in‑house mentorship programme for those new to GP or just new to the team.
Job responsibilities
Summary of Main Responsibilities: The post‑holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Supervisory responsibilities / Position in structure: Will report to the Senior Partner (clinically) and to the Business Manager (administration).
Specific duties / Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Make yourself available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescription checks and signings, and related paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Make professional autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referenced or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
- Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health.
- Provide counselling and health education.
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Collect data for audit purposes and comply with QOF requirements.
- Deliver enhanced services.
- Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible).
- Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
- In general, undertake all normal duties associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities within the organisation:
- Be aware of and comply with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
- Commit to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
- Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
- Contribute to the development of computer‑based patient records.
- Contribute to the summarising of patient records and Read‑Coding patient data.
- Attend training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Qualifications
- Essential: MBBS or equivalent medical degree; full registration with GMC; certification of completion of training (JCPTGP/PMETB); inclusion on Performers List; evidence of a commitment to on‑going personal experience of working in a GP practice.
