The Basic Needs Student Care Coordinator provides non-clinical case management and basic needs coordination for the Dean of Students (DoS) Office and First Generation and/or Low Income Student Success Center (FLISSC). Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Basic Needs Student Care Coordinator works closely with both the DoS and FLISSC teams to provide follow-up and logistical support to individual students and to student groups; connect students to basic needs resources and community-based support; coordinate, and implement services that foster community, promote belonging, and support student success.
In This Role You Will
- Provide non-clinical assessment of student needs and employ case management interventions, as appropriate, to advise and support students and connect them to resources both on and off-campus.
- Provide short-term direct support to students facing basic needs challenges such as food, housing, caregiving, well-being, and general financial need.
- Assist students in making informed decisions and connecting to resources as appropriate.
- Coordinate with staff from campus partner offices to ensure individual student support as well as programmatic efforts to support student success.
- Deliver targeted support to first-generation, low-income, and former foster youth students navigating basic needs and academic challenges.
- Manage the DoS basic needs pantry, helping to provide students with food and personal care items to meet short-term needs.
- Administer the DoS Student Emergency Fund and document all transactions in accordance with university policy and processes.
- Proactively identify students at risk of unmet basic needs and engage them with available support and resources.
- Design, implement, and evaluate programming that fosters community, belonging, and resilience for students facing basic needs challenges.
- Research, develop, and continuously maintain a directory of campus and community basic needs resources for students.
- Coordinate outreach and resources for students following major incidents such as natural disasters.
- Document all student support and interventions in the case management database in a timely manner.
- Track, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of interventions and programs.
- Provide administrative support for database and record-keeping in the DoS Office.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Education; Student Development; Counseling; Social Work or a related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to students, campus and community partners, and management.
- Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant computer systems/technology experience, including experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workplace.
- Understanding of basic financial stewardship practices.
- Ability to communicate sensitive and confidential matters regarding complex cases within the guidelines of FERPA.
- Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
Working Conditions
This position may require evening and weekend hours, as needed. This is a hybrid position that requires at least 4 designated days a week onsite.
