Platform & Application Engineer – Systematic Trading Firm | London
A leading systematic trading firm is seeking an Application Platform Engineer to join a team responsible for the onboarding, operation, and continuous improvement of business-critical third‑party platforms used across the organisation.
This is a highly varied role sitting at the intersection of Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, and Application Support. The team owns a diverse estate spanning AWS, SaaS, and Linux/Windows on‑premise environments, supporting everything from market data platforms and observability tooling through to collaboration and AI‑enabled services.
You’ll work closely with traders, quantitative researchers, developers, infrastructure teams, and external vendors, ensuring critical platforms remain reliable, scalable, and operationally efficient.
The Role
- Support and operate a broad range of third‑party platforms across AWS, SaaS, and on‑premise environments
- Own the onboarding, configuration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of business‑critical applications
- Manage platforms such as market data services, observability tooling, reporting platforms, collaboration tools, and AI‑enabled services
- Design and maintain highly available application environments with a focus on performance and operational stability
- Troubleshoot issues across Linux, Windows, networking, cloud, and application layers
- Work directly with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve incidents and improve platform reliability
- Perform root cause analysis and implement long‑term engineering solutions
- Develop automation and tooling to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency
- Build monitoring, observability, and operational controls across the application estate
- Contribute to the evolution of engineering standards, operational processes, and platform governance
Requirements
- 3+ years’ experience within Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Linux Engineering, App Support, or a similar role
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting capability
- Experience supporting production platforms within complex technical environments
- AWS experience, ideally including services such as ECS, RDS, and IAM
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code and configuration management tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, or similar
- Understanding of networking fundamentals and application connectivity troubleshooting
- Experience working with Git‑based workflows and modern engineering practices
- Experience supporting market data platforms
- Exposure to SaaS platform administration
- Familiarity with GitHub, Slack, OpsGenie, and related tooling
