Server Hardware Management Engineer – Systematic Hedge Fund | London

A high-performance systematic hedge fund is seeking a Server Admin to join their core Infrastructure Engineering function. This team designs, builds, and operates the physical compute platforms that power global quantitative research and trading — from high-density Linux clusters to large-scale storage and low-latency systems.

In this position, you’ll take ownership of the reliability, lifecycle, and operational workflow of the firm’s physical server estate. You’ll work closely with engineering teams, data centre partners, and vendors — particularly HP — to ensure hardware remains healthy, well-documented, and ready to support the firm’s rapidly scaling compute landscape. It’s the ideal role for someone who enjoys structured operational ownership, hands‑on hardware work, and building predictable, high‑quality processes.

Role Overview

• Respond to hardware alerts across global server environments and coordinate diagnosis, triage, and resolution.
• Manage vendor support tickets, RMAs, and escalations — with a strong emphasis on HP case management and SLA delivery.
• Execute hardware refreshes, component swaps, and firmware upgrades across the fleet.
• Coordinate with data centre operations for deployments, cabling, and physical troubleshooting.
• Maintain accurate lifecycle and asset records (serials, service history, replacements, provisioning state).
• Support capacity planning, provisioning workflows, and infrastructure readiness.
• Keep documentation, inventories, and operational processes consistently up to date.

What They’re Looking For

• Minimum 2 and Maximum 5 years hardware ops/support or data centre engineering experience
• Strong understanding of server components including CPU, memory, storage, and NICs
• Experience with HPE OneView, Redfish APIs, and HPE iLO interfaces
• Familiar with Linux systems i.e. boot management, workflow provisioning, and Ansible for config management
• Vendor management experience (particularly around resolving issues)
• Enterprise Hardware experience (HPE, Dell, Supermico, or Lenovo)
• Observability tooling exposure (Prometheus, VictoriaLogs, and Grafana)
• Ticketing experience
• Experience working with data centre teams
